Being Spiritual Only Takes A Moment

Reflection: “…how much can this moment deliver to me?..” Abraham / Esther Hicks

And here is the whole quote…

“Mining the moment for something that feels good, something to appreciate, something to savor, something to take in, that's what your moments are about. They're not about justifying your existence. It's justified. You exist. It's not about proving your worthiness. It's done. You're worthy. It's not about achieving success. You never get it done. It's about "How much can this moment deliver to me?" And some of you like them fast, some of you like them slow. No one's taking score. You get to choose. The only measurement is between my desire and my allowing. And your emotions tell you everything about that.”

They said What?…

And now I will take that lovely, long quote apart and we will discuss it – or at least I will! ☺

To mine a moment, you must ‘be’ in the moment. That means being present in whatever it is that you are doing at any given time. How often do you find yourself doing the marketing, washing the dishes, driving the car and you are thinking about what the next item on your to-do list is? In this case, you are not being mindful. Let’s use washing the dishes as the example. There you are, standing by the sink; soap, dirty dishes and scrubber at hand. What are you thinking about? Are you focused on the feel of the dish in your hand; the silkiness of the detergent, the temperature of the water? Or, are you thinking about whom needs to finish their homework; what is marked on the calendar for the next day; whether or not the washing machine completed its cycle? To stay in the moment, clear your mind and focus your total attention on what you are doing. You may be surprised at how peaceful the moment becomes! I actually did this a while back and what I found when the peace came in was an appreciation for the food that ‘dirtied’ the plate, the farmer who worked so hard to get it to market, the company with whom I shared the meal and how beautiful my kitchen is!

Happily, I did not in any way go to that place on the ‘mind tape’ that questioned what I was doing or if someone else might have done it; or if I were doing a good job and would someone look to find fault. I was just there, dong the dishes and it was a great experience. And trust me; I am no longer in love with kitchen duty!! Moral: Be in the moment!

To be or not…

Oh that people would come to a place whereby they did not feel the need to justify being. That does not mean letting go of the ‘why am I here’ question. It means letting go of the need to please everyone in your life before yourSelf. Remember, you cannot give away what you do not own. So, start by making you happy and just as a stone in a quiet pond creates gentle ripples, the ‘happy stuff’ will generate joy in the lives of those around you!

You are here. Why not do your best to explore and enjoy the journey? I believe that all that happens and all that is has a reason for being. That includes you. Some folks have an attitude of ‘my life is all about punishment, I have bad karma.’ These thoughts are so very far from the truth. God and the Universe do not issue punishments, life does, and we design our lives based on the lessons (karma) we need to learn. Then the lessons are implemented according to the choices we make. Remember, Karma is about balance!

When you work to provide those around you with a reason to like, accept or appreciate you, you are justifying; providing a reason for your existence. When you give joy from a place of joy that is a whole different story. Give to others for the wonder and delight of giving, not to impress or imbue them with a fondness for you. In such a case, the affection in not genuine, and the moment you are not extending yourself, they will withdraw their warmth. This is the time to allow those in your life to love you for who you are. All you have to do is be yourself!

You are special, you are worthy of goodness, of greatness, of receiving joy, of being honored just because you are you! As a matter of fact, substitute the word I for you and you have a wonderful affirmation here worth repeating several times a day!

So vibrate…

All you have to do is choose to allow your inner light to shine for all to see. Look at the glass as more full than not. Decide that all is not dark and gloomy in your life; that people are not out to get you, but to help you move forward on your journey of growth. A challenge is a gift and you brought the present to yourself in order to learn, to expand all that you are. Look at what a blessing the teachers are who are willing to share themselves in such a way as to offer you so much help. Begin today, to see your life with new vision, with new eyes and with re-written thoughts. Practice the art of letting go of that which does not serve and honor you. And if all this sounds a bit much, ask questions, so as to develop understanding and a strategy for applying this new and positive outlook.

You are the little stone cast into the sweet waters of life around you; only you can create ripples of glee, merriment and laughter from your place of center. Get to know the feel of joy and share, share, share it! Be all of who you are in each and every moment.

In closing this issue of Silver Threads, I will share with you the wisdom of the Buddha:

"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly."

Look deeply in to the moment to find what you need!
